Meet Becki

A warm welcome, my name is Becki and I am the woman behind Cothi Valley Pilates, a small, friendly, fully equipped Pilates Studio located in the picturesque Cothi Valley, Carmarthenshire.

I find seeing the positive changes Pilates brings to my clients incredibly rewarding, and as such I plan each and every class to support the goals and objectives of those attending.

When I'm not busy at home or teaching Pilates, I enjoy reading, dancing, hiking, and spending time with the alpacas who you will meet when you come to the studio, as ways to relax and decompress.

Pilates Journey

After experiencing chronic, dehabiltating back pain from early 2004, an MRI identified that I would require an operation to remove part of my disc that was impinging the nerves near my spine. In 2005 after having back surgery, my Osteopath recommended I try Pilates as a way of regaining my strength and mobility. Overwhelmed by the speed of my recovery and the reduction in pain once Pilates was introduced into my rehabilitation programme I made Pilates a regular part of my routine.

In early 2009 after funding for the role I worked as an Independent Domestic Violence Advocate came to an end, I decided to complete my Pilates teacher training so that I could pass on the benefits that I had found for my own body and Mental Well-being to others.

In early 2022 whilst completing CPD in Pelvic Health I realised that I needed to see a women's health physiotherapist. After I was diagnosed with a pelvic organ prolapse I was initially embarrassed and frustrated. Wanting to find out as much as I could about Pelvic health and the factors that can impact the function of your pelvic floor I completed more training. This was the lightbulb moment for me where I not only understood why I was experiencing difficulties but also the importance of incorporating the Pelvic health into classes for my clients.

Through a combination of the methods I now teach I have been able to improve my pelvic organ prolapse. My message is that you do not have to put up with pelvic floor difficulties. You can improve your pelvic health.
